Luminaire Project- Sunflower

Project Information:

This project aims to create a creative, working lamp that could be sold in stores. Materials are to be recyclable for sustainability.

Design Statement:

The design of this table luminaire is functional and aesthetically pleasing. It is a sunflower because I wanted to create a naturalistic design. Due to COVID-19, people are finding themselves staying home, so I wanted to make a luminaire that could adhere to the design trend of bringing the outside in. Materials used will adhere to the naturalistic function of this design, such as wood, which supports the piece, and recycled glass vase. The petals are formed with yellow felt fabric and hodge-podge, which allows the petals to take their stiff shape. All materials are non-flammable as well. The lamp is used as the bud to bring the design together. The LED used in this project is a Smart bulb that allows users to access the lighting controls through the Google Home app and the manufacturer's "Cync" app. With this feature, users can control the brightness and color of the lamp. I wanted the lamp to have this feature because the use of LED light strips has become popular in recent years, and with this luminaire, users can have the same effect without the repercussions of using LED strips. This luminaire will create a cozy, comfortable atmosphere for all who have it.
